The industrial axial flow fans characteristic curve is the relation curve between wind pressure, efficiency and power and flow rate, as shown in the figure. The P-Q curve in the figure shows the characteristics of air pressure and flow, which indicates that the total air pressure increases when the air volume of the fan decreases within the practical range, and the total air pressure decreases when the air volume increases. As long as the whole air pressure is measured in operation, the flow rate can be found out from the curve (single fan operation) or calculated (parallel operation).
The
axial flow fan power P of the fan is proportional to the product of the air pressure P and the flow rate Q, and inversely proportional to the efficiency η. The centrifugal fan P decreases with the increase of Q, but the product of P and Q increases, so P increases with the increase of Q. The characteristic curve of axial flow fan is steeper, and the wind pressure decreases rapidly when the air volume increases, so P decreases with the increase of Q.
When the air volume increases, the fan efficiency η starts to rise, and then decreases with the increase of the air volume after passing the highest point. Only when the system is operating under the design condition of the fan, can it have the highest efficiency. When the system deviates from the design condition, the efficiency of the fan will be reduced. It must be pointed out that the quantitative relation of the above curves is a function of fan speed or rotor blade Angle. When the fan speed or rotor blade Angle changes to another value, all characteristic curves change with each other, but the qualitative relationship remains unchanged, as shown in the figure. Fan characteristic curve plays an important role in selecting the fan, understanding the performance of the fan and its economic operation.
